Electrical work is priced three ways here: per square foot of covered area, per point, and as a lump sum inside a construction contract. All three are published below for Lahore and Islamabad or Rawalpindi, with the manufacturer price list every figure is built from.
Lahore, Standard specification, material and labour. Fittings and fans excluded.

What it costs, and which stage pays for it
Reviewed on 13 September 2026, complete electrical works for a new house in Lahore at a Standard specification cost PKR 240 to 320 per square foot of covered area. In Islamabad and Rawalpindi the same specification costs PKR 250 to 340. That covers cable, conduiting allowance, boxes, switches and sockets, distribution board and protection, earthing and labour. Light fittings, ceiling fans, solar equipment, UPS batteries and automation are separate.
On a 10 Marla house at about 3,100 square feet of covered area that is PKR 7.44 lakh to 9.92 lakh. On a 1 Kanal house at about 6,000 square feet, PKR 14.4 lakh to 19.2 lakh. On a 5 Marla house at about 1,900 square feet, PKR 4.56 lakh to 6.08 lakh.

Ask any contractor in writing which stage carries conduiting and boxes. If both quotations include them you are paying twice. If neither does, the conduits will be missing when the wiring stage arrives, and the only fix is cutting chases into finished walls.

Where the money is buried
Almost all of a house's electrical cost is covered over before anyone can inspect it. This is a cut section through a typical two storey house, with the eight elements that carry the cost keyed to the schedule below.

Three of the eight sit in the grey structure and five in the finishing. That split is the reason two quotations for the same house can differ by a lakh and both look reasonable.

Taken from the worked build up further down this page, for a 10 Marla house at Standard specification in Lahore. Two things are worth noticing. Copper is the largest single exposure in the package, which is why a manufacturer price revision moves the whole budget: between the Pakistan Cables lists effective 1 February and 3 June 2026, coil prices rose about 8.5 to 10 per cent. And contractor overhead and profit is 17 per cent of the total, a line most published electrical costings leave out entirely.

Solar and UPS readiness covers the second distribution path for backed up circuits, the changeover arrangement, and the DC conduit route from roof to inverter. It does not cover panels, inverters, batteries or the net metering application.
Islamabad and Rawalpindi price about five per cent above Lahore. Cable and switchgear are made mainly in Karachi and Lahore and carry freight north, the twin cities wholesale market discounts less deeply on the same brands, and the distribution company is IESCO rather than LESCO. That five per cent is a working assumption from our own purchasing, not a published index.
What the materials cost today
Published manufacturer and retail prices, not Avenir rates. These are the inputs behind every figure above, and the numbers to check when a contractor tells you cable prices have moved.

3/.029 is not 1.5 mm²
Imperial sizing gives the strand count and their diameter in inches. A 3/.029 cable is three strands of 0.029 inch, about 1.28 square millimetres of copper, so it carries less copper than a 1.5 mm² cable. A 7/.029 is seven strands, about 2.98 square millimetres, more copper than 2.5 mm².
The price list confirms it. The 3/.029 coil is 8,950 against 10,330 for 1.5 mm², about 13 per cent lower, tracking its 15 per cent lower copper content. The 7/.029 coil is 19,735 against 16,845 for 2.5 mm², about 17 per cent higher, tracking its 19 per cent extra copper. Copper is what you are buying. A coil offered well below these numbers for the same nominal size is short, thin, or copper clad aluminium.
Prices moved 8.5 to 10 per cent in four months
Comparing the Pakistan Cables list effective 1 February 2026 with the list effective 3 June 2026, the 3/.029 coil rose from 8,245 to 8,950 and the 7/.029 coil from 18,185 to 19,735, both about 8.5 per cent. The 6 mm² and 10 mm² sizes rose exactly 10 per cent, from 35,135 to 38,650 and from 60,735 to 66,810.
On a house where cable is roughly a third of the electrical package, a 10 per cent cable move is a 3 per cent move on the electrical budget. That is why every figure here carries a review date, and why a quotation held open for six months is not the favour it appears to be.

A board described only as "DB with MCBs" is not a specification. What changes both cost and safety is the number of ways, the isolator rating, whether socket circuits sit behind a shared 30 mA RCCB or each carries its own RCBO, and the breaking capacity. Ask for those four in writing.

Conduit is the item most often mispriced in published costings, because it is quoted by the length and estimated by the metre. A three metre length at PKR 215 is about PKR 72 per metre, not the PKR 200 to 500 per metre that circulates on some cost pages.

These are the statutory floor rates the province notified, and they are what the labour element of every figure on this page is built from. The federal minimum wage rose to PKR 40,700 a month from 1 July 2026 under the 2026-27 budget. A working electrical gang on a house is one skilled electrician and one helper, PKR 3,538 a day between them.

Cost per point, and how many a house needs
A point is one accessory position with everything behind it: the conduit run, the box, the cable, the switch or socket and the termination. The downlight or the ceiling fan is not part of the point.

The two methods reconcile, and that is the test to apply to any quotation. The worked build up further down this page puts a 165 point house at PKR 830,000 all in, which is PKR 5,030 per point and PKR 268 per square foot. Both land inside the bands above. If a contractor's per point rate and per square foot rate do not reconcile like this, one of the two is wrong, and it is worth asking which.

What published cost figures leave out
These are the items that turn a quoted electrical budget into a larger final bill. None is exotic. All are avoidable if they are named before work starts.
Containment, counted twice or not at all
Conduit and boxes belong to the grey structure. Many finishing quotations price them again, and many grey structure quotations quietly leave them out.
Earthing
An electrode pit with salt and charcoal treatment, and the conductor run to the board, is a real line item. A distribution company neutral is not an earth.
Protection strategy
Number of ways, isolator rating, residual current strategy and breaking capacity change the cost of the board by a multiple.
Load sanction and the connection file
A wiring contractor's test report forms part of the new connection application. If the sanctioned load pushes the house to three phase, the meter, cable and board all change.
Solar and UPS changeover
Backed up circuits need a second distribution path and a changeover. The DC route from roof to inverter has to be decided before the slab is cast.
Fittings against points
On a Premium house the downlights, cove lighting and decorative fittings can cost more than the whole wiring package behind them.
Chasing and making good
Adding a point after plaster means cutting a chase, repairing it and repainting. That cost lands in the masonry and paint trades, not the electrician's quote.
Ceiling coordination
POP ceilings, cove details and duct routes fix the position of every downlight. Deciding after the ceiling is up means opening it again.
What moves the number
Point density, not floor area
Two houses of the same covered area can differ by 40 per cent. Kitchens, media walls, home offices and terraces carry far more points per square foot than bedrooms and corridors.
Air conditioning count and tonnage
Each split unit takes its own circuit in 4 mm squared with a dedicated breaker and isolator. Eight units rather than four adds four circuits, not a bigger cable.
Single phase against three phase
Above roughly 15 kW of sanctioned load a house usually moves to three phase, which changes the meter, the incoming cable, the board and phase balancing. Confirm the threshold for your address with your distribution company.
Ceiling type and lighting design
A full POP ceiling with cove lighting multiplies both point count and coordination effort against a plain slab soffit with surface fittings.
Solar readiness after the 2026 rule change
NEPRA replaced net metering with net billing under the Prosumer Regulations notified in February 2026, cutting the export rate for new applicants well below the retail import rate. Reported buyback figures have ranged from about PKR 8 to PKR 11 per unit and the position has been under review since. The design consequence is stable: self consumption is now worth far more than export, so wire for backed up circuits and daytime load shifting rather than for a large export system. Confirm the current rules before sizing anything.
External and ancillary loads
Boundary and facade lighting, gate motor, borewell pump, pressure pump, pool plant, lift and basement ventilation each add circuits outside the house point count.
What each specification contains
A specification name means nothing without named products. These are the electrical rows of Avenir's standard finishing specification, matching the tiers on our house construction cost page.

Most published construction costs are a number with nothing behind it. This is the full build up for one house, so you can check every input, change any assumption, and see where the answer moves. It is the same calculation the estimator on this page runs.

What is assumed, and stated
- 165 points for a 3,100 square foot house at Standard specification

Change any assumption and the answer moves in a way you can follow. Raise the point count to 190 and the figure goes up by about 12 per cent. Specify Pakistan Cables rather than a market brand and cable alone adds 75,000. That is the reason for publishing the build up rather than a single rate: a number you cannot interrogate is a number you cannot rely on.
The bands in Schedule A are this calculation run across the four specifications and across a realistic spread of point densities, then rounded to the nearest ten rupees. Starter drops to local cable and accessories and a lower point count. Premium moves to Pakistan Cables or Newage, imported accessories, an RCBO on every wet and socket circuit, and roughly a quarter more points. Luxury adds imported smart accessories, an RCBO per circuit and structured cabling throughout, which is why it runs to more than double Standard.
What a properly run electrical package needs
Electrical work is the part of a house easiest to get wrong quietly, because most of it is buried before anyone can inspect it. Seven things separate a package that holds up from one that does not, whoever builds for you.
- A load schedule before a rate. The appliances the household will actually run, air conditioners by tonnage, geysers, pumps, kitchen equipment and any UPS or solar arrangement, listed and totalled. The sanctioned load follows from that, not from a rule of thumb per Marla.
- A single line diagram and circuit schedule. Circuits, cable sizes, breaker ratings and residual current protection drawn and issued with the construction drawings, rather than decided by the electrician on site.
- Point marking walked before conduiting. Every switch, socket and light position marked on the wall at brickwork stage and agreed. This is the last moment a change is free.
- Conduit routes coordinated against the structural drawings. No chase cut into a beam or a column, and no conduit crossing a structural element the engineer has not allowed for.
- A reflected ceiling plan agreed before POP. Downlight, cove and diffuser positions fixed once, so the ceiling is not opened again after it is finished.
- Named brands and grades in the BOQ. Cable brand, accessory range, board make and breaker type written in, with substitution requiring written approval. Schedule J is what that looks like.
- Testing recorded before handover. Insulation resistance, earth continuity, polarity and residual current trip testing, the wiring contractor's test report for the connection file, and an as built circuit schedule inside the board door.

Review dates and limits
Everything on this page is a planning range for budgeting. It is not a quotation, it is not electrical design, and it does not establish the sanctioned load, circuit design or protection strategy for any particular house. Those follow from drawings and a load schedule. Prices move: the cable inputs alone rose between 8.5 and 10 per cent in the four months between the February and June 2026 manufacturer lists, which is why every figure here carries the date it was reviewed.

How much does electrical work cost for a house in Pakistan?
For a new build in Lahore at a Standard specification, PKR 240 to 320 per square foot of covered area, reviewed 13 September 2026. That covers cable, conduiting allowance, boxes, accessories, distribution board and protection, earthing and labour. Is electrical work part of grey structure or finishing?
Both. Conduit routes, concealed boxes, sleeves and chasing are cast or cut into the shell and belong to the grey structure. Cable, accessories, distribution boards, earthing and testing belong to the finishing. Ask any contractor which stage carries containment, because a quotation that prices it in both stages is charging you twice, and one that prices it in neither will need chases cut into finished walls.
How many electrical points does a 10 Marla house need?
Around 140 to 190 points for a 10 Marla house of roughly 3,100 square feet covered area at a Standard specification. A 5 Marla house at about 1,900 square feet typically runs 90 to 120, a 1 Kanal house at about 6,000 square feet runs 250 to 340, and a 2 Kanal house at about 10,000 square feet runs 420 to 560. Point density is driven by kitchens, media walls and home offices far more than by floor area.
What does one electrical point cost?
At Standard specification in Lahore, supply and fix, a light point costs PKR 2,900 to 4,000, a 5A socket point PKR 2,900 to 4,000, a 13A power socket point PKR 4,300 to 6,200, and a dedicated air conditioner point PKR 11,000 to 17,000. The light fitting or the ceiling fan itself is not included in a point rate.
What is the difference between 3/.029 and 1.5 mm² cable?
A 3/.029 cable has three strands of 0.029 inch, about 1.28 square millimetres of copper, so it carries less copper than a 1.5 mm² cable and is priced lower. On the Pakistan Cables list effective 3 June 2026, a 90 metre coil of 3/.029 is 8,950 against 10,330 for 1.5 mm². A 7/.029 has seven strands, about 2.98 square millimetres, more copper than 2.5 mm², and is listed at 19,735 against 16,845. Imperial and metric sizes are not interchangeable, and the price difference reflects the copper.
What is the current electric wire price in Pakistan?
On the Pakistan Cables suggested retail price list effective 3 June 2026, a 90 metre coil is 8,950 for 3/.029, 10,330 for 1.5 mm² solid, 16,845 for 2.5 mm² solid, 19,735 for 7/.029, 26,010 for 4 mm² and 38,650 for 6 mm², at the sales tax registered rate. Other manufacturers price below this list and project purchasing usually secures a discount. Prices rose about 8.5 to 10 per cent between the February and June 2026 lists.
Do I need a three phase connection?
It depends on the sanctioned load your appliances require, not on the plot size. Houses above roughly 15 kW of load are generally moved to three phase, which changes the meter, the incoming cable, the main board and how circuits are balanced. A load schedule produced at design stage settles this before the connection is applied for, rather than after the meter has been installed. Confirm the current threshold and process with LESCO or IESCO for your address.
Does solar change how a new house should be wired in 2026?
Yes. NEPRA replaced net metering with a net billing framework under the Prosumer Regulations notified in February 2026, and the export rate for new applicants was reduced well below the retail import rate. Reported figures for the new buyback have ranged from about PKR 8 to PKR 11 per unit, and the position has been subject to amendment since, so verify the current rules before committing. The design consequence has held steady regardless: self consumed units are worth far more than exported units, so a new house should be wired for backed up circuits and daytime load shifting rather than for a large export system.
What is a wiring test report and do I need one?
It is a certificate from a licensed wiring contractor confirming the installation has been tested, and it forms part of the document set submitted with a new electricity connection application to LESCO or IESCO alongside ownership proof, CNIC copies and a neighbouring bill. Requirements and the current document list should be confirmed directly with your distribution company or on the national new connection portal, since they are revised from time to time.
